Yuri Kolotaev

Senior Lecturer, Department of European Studies, St. Petersburg State University

Yury is Visiting Professor at the Higher School of Economics National Research University in St. Petersburg.

He also takes part in the Valdai – New Generation project and contributes to the Digital Reality podcast of the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ.

Having graduated from the International Relations Department at the St. Petersburg State University, Yury obtained his PhD in 2023 by studying the theoretical concept of post-truth policy and influencing the digital media space in international relations. His research currently focuses on studying present-day digital threats, information security, the digital divide, online platforms management, and digital literacy.

He is the author of numerous works in Russian and English on countering malicious content, including malicious rhetoric and digital misinformation. In particular, he co-authored The Palgrave Handbook of Malicious Use of AI and Psychological Security, which deals with fighting the malicious use of AI.

Yury is a member of the St. Petersburg State University’s research team tasked with studying Russia’s information security landscape during the fourth industrial revolution, and takes part in a project funded by the Russian Science Foundation to study political fragmentation. In addition to this, Yury has carried out research as part of the projects funded by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research to study psychological safety challenges involving AI in Northeast Asia (2021-2023).

Yuri Kolotaev
